K-HipHop Diss Battles: SMTM

Over the past few weeks I've been rewatching my favourite Show Me The Money diss battles (as you do), so I wanted to share the clips which make me laugh/gasp the most.

Unsurprisingly this post is heavily AOMG/H1GHR Music & MKIT Rain biased, as I'm absolutely obsessed with these record labels' rosters.

SMTM8: Lil Tachi vs BIG Naughty

Killer Line: BIG Naughty's "Your hair is A$AP, but why can't you speak English?"

Highlight: Naughty covering his face with the props when Lil Tachi raps 'You're so ugly, could you wear a mask?', resulting in Tachi stalling his lines - absolutely cracked me up. BewhY then commenting Naughty 'destroyed him' is the cherry on the cake!

After watching BIG Naughty absolutely kill his verses on H1GHR Music's recent compilation album (Red Tape & Blue Tape), I came to watch his SMTM appearances and instantly understood why Jay Park signed him. He's the definition of a cute but deadly savage.

SMTM6: Junoflo & Woodie Gochild vs Hash Swan & KillaGramz

Killer Line: Juno's "Yo Hash Swan, got any money?" and Woodie's "You can't get mad, or just like your song: 'insufficient oxygen'"

Highlight: Hash Swan smiling and laughing cutely throughout the whole diss battle like he wasn't being completely roasted by Junoflo & Woodie Gochild.

SMTM6: ASOL & Woo WonJae vs Jo WooChan & Nucksal

Killer Line: WonJae's "There's no such thing as Santa Claus" and WooChan's informal speech "Just work on improving yourself, WonJae ya"

Highlight: The chemistry between WooChan & Nucksal's verses; they've got an adorable father & son dynamic. I'm also amazed at how WooChan recovers so quickly from that small mistake; usually rappers completely forget the rest of their lines.

SMTM777: Loopy vs Superbee

Killer Line: Superbee's "pH-1... says hi to you in English, but Loopy suddenly turned on the translator" - I'M DYING!!

Highlight: The contrast between their rap styles is hilarious - Loopy took the diss battle rather seriously (possibly due to their old bad blood), while Superbee's singing-style mocking rap is hilarious, relieving the built-up tension.

SMTM777: Nafla vs Chaboom

Killer Line: nafla's "You don't even have to pay the subway fee"

Highlight: nafla calling Chaboom out for being an 'old man' is hilarious; handing over a walking stick at the end was absolutely savage - Chaboom's a good sport for playing along. Chaboom then using 'Wu' (nafla's most popular song) against him was well thought through.

SMTM777: EK vs pH-1

Killer Line: Rather than killer, I love pH-1's singing rap "you so wavy, I got the juice so tasty"

Highlight: EK's incredible, but at the same time awfully hilarious, dance moves

This is by far the most fun and chill rap battle in the history of SMTM - I absolutely love how the contestants are just enjoying themselves, and nafla's team are totally vibing with the backing track & atmosphere. D.Ark 'transforming' into pH-1, and pH-1's 'oh woah woah woah' when EK gets a little too close is also hilarious!

SMTM8: Jjangyou & Punchnello vs YUNHWAY

Killer Line: Punchnello imitating Yunhway "Ok teriyaki, diagnosis: severe burn" and Yunhway's "Kiss DEAN and Crush's ass but you still not famous"

Highlight: One of the few diss battles where I can't pick a side, both absolutely killed it: from Punchnello imitating Yunhway's style, to Yunhway spitting straight harsh facts.

SMTM4: Black Nut (feat. San E) vs Song Minho (Mino)

Killer Line: Mino's "since Korea knows how corrupted you are" to San E

Highlight: You can definitely see why Mino placed 2nd in SMTM, Mino put San E and Black Nut in their place with his savage lines.

I might be biased cause I adore Mino (and WINNER), but Black Nut's verse and flow here is disappointing. If you're going to rap on Mino's song ('I'm Him') in the first place, at least level with or surpass the original track. The way Black Nut reacts to Mino's rap (laying on the floor, acting like a child) is considerably cringey.
